MIAMI – October 18, 2019 – Last night’s broadcast of Telemundo’s 2019 “Latin American Music Awards” dominated Spanish-language TV prime time among all key demos, delivering 2M total viewers, 881K adults 18-49 and 400K adults 18-34, according to Nielsen. The star-studded awards ceremony pushed Telemundo to #1 in Spanish-language TV, outperforming the combined delivery of Univision and Unimas by +13% among total viewers, +15% among adults 18-49 and +21% among adults 18-34. The show reached a cumulative audience of 4.2M total viewers, including 1.9M adults 18-49 and drove Telemundo to be the #2 broadcast network in primetime among adults 18-34, behind Fox.
Telemundo also set a record for the Latin American Music Awards with 40M engagements across digital, social and television platforms, a 34% increase over 2018. On social media, the awards show delivered 6.6M social interactions, according to Nielsen Social Content Ratings, making it the #1 most social program across all TV for the day, and representing a 71% increase in activity vs. the 2018 awards show.
Locally, the 2019 “Latin American Music Awards” ranked as the #1 program in total day, regardless of language, in New York and Miami among adults 18-49. It was also the #1 program in total day in Spanish-language television in Los Angeles, Dallas, Orlando, Denver and Boston.
Anuel AA was the night’s big winner, taking home five awards including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Favorite Album, Urban for “Real Hasta la Muerte,” Favorite Artist, Male and Favorite Artist, Urban. Ozuna, Romeo Santos, Sebastian Yatra, Christian Nodal, CNCO, Cardi B, Selena Gómez and DJ Snake were among the night’s other top winners. The ceremony also honored music icon Marc Anthony with the Latin AMAs International Artist Award of Excellence which he dedicated to the recently deceased Prince of Song José José, interpreting “Almohada” as a special tribute, and recognized Becky G with the Extraordinary Evolution Award.
The show featured electrifying musical performances, including the show opener "Mamacita" by Farruko and Jason Derulo; Mexican artist Sofía Reyes rendition of her multilingual empowerment anthem “RIP;” the television premiere of Romeo Santos’ "El Beso Que No Le Di" featuring Dominican Bachata artist Kiko Rodríguez; and Becky G’s medley including “Becky From The Block,” “Mayores,” “Sin Pijama,” and “Mala Santa,” which was followed by a performance by Daddy Yankee singing the hit “Que Tire Palante.” In another unforgettable moment, Puerto Ricans Farruko, Justin Quiles and Zion & Lenox sang the Puerto Rican classic “Borinquen Bella,” while reggaeton artist Ozuna got everyone on their feet with a medley of his hits “Taki taki” and “Baila Baila Baila.” CNCO and Abraham Mateo collaborated on “Me Vuelvo Loco”, while CNCO also debuted their first composition “Ya Tú Sabes.” The show came to a spectacular close with Anuel AA, Ozuna and Daddy Yankee performing “China.”
